Mayor Beng Climaco on Monday vowed to continue clearing operations in public roads used for private purposes in compliance with the directive of President Duterte.
The mayor likewise reiterated her call for a 100 percent compliance of the directive by all the 98 barangays in the city.
She said the DILG Evaluation team from Manila is set to arrive in the city on October 3 for an assessment of the city’s compliance on the presidential directive and Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) memorandum circular 2019-121 issued on July 29, 2019.
The DILG city office met with barangay officials Monday afternoon for an initial evaluation of the clearing operations in the barangays.
Of the total 98 barangays in the city, 6 have not fully complied with the order, based on the initial DILG assessment, according to Mayor Climaco.
Based on the DILG circular, September 29, 2019 is the last day for local government unit executives to executive immediate implementation of the clearing operations.
Climaco instructed the City Administrator’s Office to make sure that sidewalk vendors at the public market as well as school administrations will be informed that all public roads will be cleared of all obstructions based on the directive of the president.
“We need to follow the law and alternatives should be provided and hand in hand we will accomplish this 100%,” the mayor told the press briefing Monday in City Hall.
She said measures will also be implemented to make sure that the remaining 6 barangays will comply with the directive. (Sheila Covarrubias)
