Mayor Beng Climaco Tuesday shared the stage with Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) stakeholders as she spoke about Zamboanga’s investments in resilience during the National Resilience Summit at Novotel Manila in Quezon City.

The 2-day event, themed “A Whole-of-Society Approach: On the Road to Resilience,” emphasized the importance of coherence and the role of all stakeholders in attaining national resilience against calamities and disasters. It also served as a knowledge-sharing platform for all DRRM stakeholders.

Mayor Climaco centered her sharing on the city’s investments on Security, Health and Education or SHE program and efforts being conducted at the community level to ensure a more resilient Zamboanga City.

She stressed that the city’s risk and resilience challenges are physical, environmental and deeply historical and socio-cultural. “In building resilience for ZC, we believe that Human security is at the core of reducing risk. There must be systemic solutions based on context that go beyond the traditional approach in security and that solutions must be targeted and efforts coherently “whole-of-society.”

She said resilience is achieved when individuals and their institutions prepare, adapt and transform to minimize exposure and vulnerability to address all current and future risks. The event was organized by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) and its Civil Society Organization (CSO) partners to include the National Resilience Council (NRC).
