A huge crowd of persons with disabilities and other stakeholders participated in the opening program of the 41st National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week at the Mayor Vitaliano Agan coliseum in Tetuan Wednesday morning.
The activity kicked off with a motorcade from Pettit Barracks passing through the city’s main thoroughfares to the Agan Coliseum in Tetuan where the program was held with Mayor Beng Climaco as the guest of honor. Big busses from the City Government, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and an ambulance were mobilized for the motorcade.
In her message, Mayor Climaco reaffirmed her commitment to the PWD sector stressing that no sector, specifically the PWD sector, will be left behind in her administration.
Spearheaded by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the 41st NDPR is themed: “Lokal na Pamahalaan: Kabalikat sa Pagtupad ng Mga Taong May Kapansanan.”
Teddy M. Kahil, Social Worker Officer II of Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center (AVRC) III acknowledged the participation of various stakeholders to include the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Department of Health (DOH), DPWH, Department of Education (DepED), all Special Education (SPED) schools in the city, Barangay Persons with Disabilities (PWD) Organizations from Cawit, Sta. Maria, San Roque, Boalan, Labuan, Sangali, Mampang and Taluksangay and for making the activity very successful and meaningful.
Kahil likewise thanked the local government unit through the Office of the City Mayor, City Administrator, City Tourism and the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) for joining forces during the opening activities.
The creation of Barangay PWD Organizations is a result of the efforts of the Persons with Disabilities Affairs Unit (PDAU) under the City Social Welfare and Development (CSWDO) which aims to organize PWD organizations in all the city’s 98 barangays with the help of the barangay councils and the 7 CSWDO field offices.
