Mayor Beng Climaco Thursday highly praised and thanked day care workers in the city for their commitment in providing early education and ensuring a better future for children, the VIPs of Zamboanga.
Climaco graced the Child Development Workers Week celebration Thursday afternoon at the Pasonanca Park organized by the Day Care Workers Federation-Zamboanga City Chapter in collaboration with the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) and attended by over 300 DCW from the city’s 98 barangays.
A champion of children’s rights and welfare, Mayor Climaco said the day care workers or the so- called child development workers are doing a great job in molding the young children in their early years.
Through Climaco’s initiative, the CSWDO produced Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) books on reading, language and mathematics. The books, written by Raffy Magtoto Gamad, a registered social worker, manifest the city’s commitment to the human development concerns of children, the VIPs of Zamboanga.
The annual celebration of Day Care Workers Week is pursuant to a memorandum issued by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and “serves as a venue to recognize the contributions of day-care workers who provide substitute parental care and early childhood education to children ages 2-4 years old in government-operated day-care centers nationwide”.
