Filipino boxer Eumir Marcial lost to Israil Madrimov of Uzbekistan in their middleweight semifinals bout to get the bronze medal in the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta on Friday.
Despite putting up a fight against the bigger Madrimov, Marcial succumbed to a split decision and joined fellow boxer Carlo Paalam settling for a bronze medal.
Three of the judges saw it 28-27 for Madrimov while the remaining two scored it 28-27 for Marcial.
Marcial and Paalam’s exits left Olympian Rogen Ladon as Philippine boxing’s only hope for a gold.
Ladon boxed his way to the finals, dominating Thailand’s Yuttapong Tongdee, 5-0, despite sporting a cut over the right eye which he sustained in a previous match.
Ladon will take on Jasurbek Latipov of Uzbekistan in the finals on Saturday.
