City assists Labuan fire victims

The City Government Sunday mobilized its resources through the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) to assist victims of the conflagration that hit Purok 5, Barangay Labuan in the east coast shortly after 1pm.

Some 400 houses made of light materials were razed to the ground in the incident. No casualties were reported but damage to properties was estimated to have reached P4M.

City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) emergency teams responded to the fire call to augment resources from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), volunteer fire brigades and other responding agencies.

Food packs good for2-days were immediately distributed to the families affected, as the CSWDO continued profiling and assessment of the displaced families. The food packs came from CDRRM funds.

As this developed, Mayor Beng Climaco has directed the police to closely coordinate with the Bureauof Fire Protection and ensure strict implementation of the Fire Code as well as confiscate gasoline being sold illegally and other fire hazards

Per report from the Bureau of Fire Protection, the fire started at 1:05pm and reached fourth alarm. It was declared under control at 2:05pm and fire out at 3:30pm.
