The City Government through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) continues relief assistance to the 69 families displaced by the fire incident at the flea market area in Curuan Saturday night.

City Social Welfare and Development Officer Socorro Rojas said her office is now conducting assessment of the families in preparation for the grant of financial assistance.

On Sunday, the CSWDO distributed non-food items to families displaced by the fire in addition to the food packs and water that Mayor Beng Climaco personally distributed Saturday night.

Mayor Climaco during her regular press briefing Monday tasked Rojas to look for funds to help provide school supplies to children whose houses along with their school supplies were razed to the ground.

Rojas said based on initial assessment, 69 families were displaced with 36 stores and 23 houses were gutted down by the fire.

The Bureau of Fire Protection continues investigation into the incident but placed the damage to properties at P3 million.

Mayor Climaco together with City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) chief Dr. Apolinario personally supervised response operations together with BFP personnel, barangay officials, volunteers and other coordinating agencies during the incident. (Sheila Covarrubias)
