Mayor Beng Climaco has called on the public anew to fully support the fight against terrorism, as she vowed to ensure the implementation of maximum security for the safety and protection of residents of the city.

This, amidst threats from lawless groups aggravated by pranksters taking advantage of the situation sowing confusion and panic.

“Man junto junto quita enfrenta con todo este maga desafio que tiene quita. Hace quita fuerte di aton Fe con Dios y Nuestra Senora La Virgen del Pilar y tene quita coraje,” Mayor Climaco appealed during an emergency press briefing she called Thursday afternoon.

The press conference was prompted by an emerging security issue caused by circulating unverified text messages warning of terror attacks in schools and business establishments downtown, Friday, June 30.

Mayor Climaco said the city has not lowered the alert level since the 2013 siege to avoid repetition of the incident. She said people should learn the lessons of the Zamboanga siege and should not allow any opportunity to terrorists to carry out their plans in the city.

“Zamboanga continues to maintain heightened alert and this gives us the normalcy we are experiencing but the success of our security operations will require the 101% support and cooperation of the civilian populace,” the mayor added.

On the other hand, the security sector vowed to continue exerting their best efforts to keep the peace and security in the city.

Also present during the emergency press briefing held at the CDRRMO Thursday afternoon were City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Dr. Elmeir Apolinario, City Administrator Apple Go, Joint Task Force Zamboanga Commander Col. Leonel Nicolas; PSupt. Diomarie Albarico-ZCPO OIC Director; Maj.
