People representing different faiths and cultures in the city joined the Muslim community in the Pagbukah or the breaking of the fast Thursday afternoon in observance of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

Mayor Beng Climaco together with the Interfaith Council hosted the Pagbukah or Iftar as a show of unity and harmony with the Muslim residents of the city who are called to fast in accordance with the Islam faith during Ramadan.

“Ramadan Kareem! A blessed Iftar that united Christians, Moslems and Lumads as one. We prayed together for peace! As one we showed our Love for God and love for Zamboanga City,” Mayor Climaco said.

Actively participating in the ceremony were Sheik Abdulwakil Tanjili, Deputy Mufti for Region 9 and Palawan and members of Sabiel Al-Muhtadeen.

Mayor Climaco thanked all those who turned up for the grand pagbukah for fasting  Muslims in the city, an annual tradition of the local government during the fasting month of Ramadan.

“We are one with the Muslim community but we want to spread the message of greater understanding towards different cultures in Zamboanga,” the chief executive added.

The activity was held at the Centro Latino in Paseo del mar and was attended by City Government officials including police and military officers and all sectors in the city.  (Sheila Covarrubias)
