The City Government of Zamboanga, through the Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR), spearheaded the planting of mangrove propagules at the coastal area of Purok 5, Barangay Dita, this city on February 2, 2024, Friday.
This is an activity in observance of this year’s World Wetlands Day with the theme “Wetlands and Human Wellbeing.” City Mayor John M. Dalipe thanked all the participants for the commitment to environmental protection and preservation. Moreover, Mayor Dalipe commended the OCENR for continuously undertaking initiatives to protect and preserve the environment. This activity forms part of Mayor Dalipe’s target to plant and grow one million trees in Zamboanga City within his term as the Chief Executive.
The activity was participated by more or less 600 individuals from the Offices of Local Government Unit, the National Government Agencies (NGAs), the Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), the Government-Owned and Controlled Corporation (GOCC), the Academe/School, Industries/ Business Sector, the Barangay Officials and uniformed personnel. Overall, the participants planted 10,000 indigenous mangrove propagules consisting 6,000 – Bakauan bangkaw, 3,000 – Bakauan babae, 1,000 – Bakauan lalake propagules.
