The City Government of Zamboanga celebrated the World Earth Day through a tree planting activity on April 22, 2023 at Sitio Muruk, Barangay Pasonanca, this city. 

During the event, City Mayor John M. Dalipe commended the Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR) for continuously undertaking initiatives to protect and preserve the environment.

A total of 392 individuals from City Government Offices, national government agencies, Armed Forces, Barangay Council of Pasonanca,  Zamboanga City Government Employees Multipurpose Cooperative (ZCGEMPCO), non-government/ civic organizations, academe, and youth organizations participated in the environmental event which successfully planted 2,000 tree species composed of Narra (Pterocarpus indicus), Nato (Palaquium luzoniense), and Palo Maria (Calophyllum Brasiliense).

This year’s celebration is to honor and create awareness on the need to protect the earth with the theme “Invest in Our Planet.”
