In celebration of World Wetlands Day, the City Government of Zamboanga through the Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR) spearheads a mangrove tree planting activity at Purok 7, Km. 8, MASEPLA, Barangay Mampang, this city on February 2, 2020.
A total of 2,500 propagules were planted by the participants from Department of Environment and Natural Resources IX – Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Zamboanga City, DENR IX-ERDB FLORUE, Western Mindanao State University-Society of Environmental Engineers of the Philippines, Mafisga Turawan Women’s Association, Crimsonvironment , Mampang Seaweeds Planters Association, Tetuan Central School, Department of Education (DepEd), Triskelion de Boalan Association, Tau Gamma Phi ZCGC, Zamboanga City High School – Main, Boy Scouts of the Philippines, ZC El Animo Eagles Club, Zamboanga-Basilan Integrated Development Alliance, Philippine Air Force SPOW-TFC, APO Zambo AA, ZC Government Employees Multi-Purpose Cooperative, Alpha Phi Omega, Environment Consultant (Private), 74IB Unbeatable Ranger Battalion, and Philippine Navy (M) III Company Marine Battalion Landing Team II.
This year’s theme is “Wetlands and Biodiversity”. The aim is to raise global awareness about the vital role of wetlands and the biodiversity they support.
